| The Lord Mayor of Manchester is officially opening You’re Hired! on the 3rd October. Councillor Mavis Smitheman, who used to be a keen extreme sportswoman and spent much of her time parachuting out of planes, will officially mark the start of the UK’s biggest job interview. |
| Born and raised in Newton Heath, where she lived for most of her life, Mavis was elected in May 1998 as councillor for the area and held the position for four years. Mavis currently represents Ardwick Ward on top of her duties as Lord Mayor. |
